Read about the genesis of an art installation celebrating this idea.

So, here we are, February. Folded washi bee on frozen solid garden monotype print. 🐝 🌞 🐝 🌞 🐝 🌞 Looking ahead and not back at a strange week in frigid liminal space, there ARE things I’m excited about. 🌞 🌞 🌞 🌞 🌞 🌞 🌞 1. Little J will be 7 soon. βœ¨πŸŽ‚and now wants to be an Earth-advocate art/scientist. 2. I will be at the Super Bee conference tomorrow, organized by the @umnbeelab . 🐝 looking forward to listening to @cariveaulab and making art with @sarahjnassif 3. I will be working on my newly renamed blog/site. (see link in bio) 🐝 4. I will meet with pollinator friendly alliance’s leader to discuss the 2019 polli/nation festival. 🐝 5. I will be planning two folding events with @como_community_seed_library 🐝 6. I will be taking a Fun Valentine printing class with @laurabrownart 🌞 🌞 🌞 🐝 🐝 🐝 🌞 🌞 🌞 Those are all wonderful things full of promise. Hopefully they will overcome my growing winter sense of not belonging here. May you all find things to look forward to in February !!✨🐝🌞 #savethebees #printmaking #origami #wintercolors #frozen #minnesota #mixedmediaart
I finally read the winter 2018/19 Monarch butterfly reports... and they’re horrifying. 80% less made it to their western wintering lands than the previous year. πŸ›we are one with all living organismsπŸ› Caterpillar made of recycled ads, inspired by Nick Robinson’s structure. #savethemonarchs #urgent #ecoart #environmentalism #origami #mixedmediaart #monarchs
Pseudacris cruciferus, aka Spring Peeper aka Tiny Amphibian. Wondering if she’s ready for the big jump. 🐸We are one with all living organisms 🐸 #mixedmediaart #ecoart #letterpress #origami #cardboard #biodiversity #environmentalism #reducepesticides β€œOne” was printed on plain kraft paper, using an old fashion poster press.
Should the Folding Bee stay away from spiders? πŸπŸ•ΈπŸ•·πŸ¦—πŸœπŸœπŸ¦—πŸ•·πŸ•ΈπŸ We are one with all living organisms. #mixedmediart #inprogress #printmaking #origami #cardboard #workingonmyarachnaphobia
Garden of words prototype, final and ready to be sent. Each mulberry paper bloom spells the word β€œflower” in the seven most widely spoken languages in the Centennial school district, Minnesota. Namely: English, Spanish, Russian, Hmong, Somali, Arabic, Dakota Sioux. Native speakers of β€œminority status” languages rarely see their multilingualism as an asset. I personally believe that it is up to public facilities such as libraries and schools to help change this perception. Each wave of new settlers brings the seeds of an incredible wealth of words, stories, names, songs... A wealth that should be tend to with love and care, not unlike a garden. ************************** #mixedmediaart #installationart #paperart #origami #prototype #mulberrypaper #language #garden
