Sometimes you need to just go ahead and be the most imperfect version of yourself. Take off all the hats you’re wearing (the mom hat, the wife hat, the sister hat, the freelancer hat, the good neighbor hat, the friend hat...) so you can wear just one (the daughter, in my case), or none at all. ****************************** Today my thoughts are populated by sullen, bare Minnesota trees. Tomorrow is another day.

Today my soup project comes officially to an end, with the publication of one last blog post with scans of the illustrated accounts of February gatherings. (link in bio). One of my goals with this project was to turn my kitchen into a safe and welcoming space for quiet, unstructured discussion, discovery and connection. After 8 gatherings, I can say that making together is definitely a wonderful way to open up and connect for introverts, ambiverts and extroverts. However, now that we all have to keep our distances for a while, know that MAKING, even by yourself, is a powerful way to cope with feelings of being overwhelmed, disempowered or depressed. So, use your hands, friends!!

I wrote these pages one month ago, after a magical soup evening with @kerrimulcareart and @emmafreemandesigns As I was illustrating them last night, I was absolutely floored by how the current context gives an entirely new meaning to the words I scribbled on my sketchbook on that night that feels so far away now. Hang in there!!! Breathe!! Eat fresh food if you can! Love to you all!! #prophecy #irony

All soup gatherings at our house have been cancelled in March. But the soup spirit lives on!! Exactly one month ago, @augustmschultz taught me a new soup trick. They also reminded me that there is (almost) always another way to do things. It’s important to keep moving and shake things up!! ******************************* MOBILITY and PERSPECTIVE. I can’t access the studio to print these two thought-ingredients, so I hand-lettered them for now. I will scan and upload the comics onto my blog as soon as I’m done drawing soup nights 7 and 8. Breathe. Be kind to yourself. And eat your veggies!!!

Subtle signs of Spring are everywhere, one of them being fresh junk mail flowers blooming in my house as I once again diligently opt out of commercial mailing lists. By doing so I substantially reduce the amount of paper thrown in our recycling bin weekly. It also feels incredibly cleansing and satisfying.
